Westbrook was selected 150th overall in the 5th round by the Dbacks back in June in the First-Year player draft
Former Basha Bear Jamie Westbrook earned a promotion wednesday morning to Missoula, Montana to join the Osprey in the Pioneer league. Westbrook was batting .292 with one homer and 20 RBI’s in 40 games with the Arizona League Diamondbacks. He led the Arizona League in triples with eight and also held a .373 on-base percentage with a .468 slugging percentage. Outfielder Justin Williams was also promoted to join the Osprey with Westbrook and they would start Wednesday night batting 7th and 8th respectively.
Westbrook would also start at second base for the Osprey who came into the game with a record of 21-31. He would make two nice plays early on defense, moving both to his left and right denying base hits in a slugfest with the Grand Junction Rockies (Colorado’s Rookie affiliate). He would be hitless in his first three at-bats, grounding out to second, fouling out, striking out looking. In the seventh, Jamie would rip a double off the right-field wall and end up scoring when Jake Miller homered for the Osprey.
The Rockies would win 16-12, but Westbrook’s double extended his hitting streak to 10 games between leagues. Listening to the game, the ball sounds like it’s flying off of his bat. He simply credits seeing the ball well right now. He continued to say “I’m stunned by the whole process and it’s time to grow up a little and continue to chase my dream!”
The Osprey are now 21-32 with 23 games remaining on their schedule. Westbrook will close out the year with them and await his next assignment. Some away games have live streaming video and every game has a radio broadcast courtesy ESPN Montana. Check out the Osprey website for more info.
