This summer we’re counting down what we believe are the Top 50 memorable sports moments for Chandler, AZ prep athletes and alumni during the 2012/13 sports seasons. Coming in at 46- Seton Catholic’s Daniel Garlid lights up Canyon del Oro for 9 RBIs.

Seton Catholic baseball had one of the more dominating regular seasons at the Division II level, setting them up for a #1 playoff ranking and an April 30th matchup with Canyon del Oro High School. CDO played an impressive game, hitting 5 HRs collectively, and putting 10 runs on the board, but it wouldn’t be close to enough as SCP shortstop Daniel Garlid nearly beat the Dorados by himself, going 4-4 with 2 doubles, a home run, and 9 RBIs.

I asked Garlid what it felt like to put up such a huge stat line in a playoff game- “It was a great game to play in. It almost felt like a rivalry game so it was great to come out on top.” Garlid went on to praise his teammates, many of whom were class of ’13 like him. “This season we had a great team with a lot of senior leadership that pushed our whole team to get better.”

Seton would go on to lose in the double elimination rounds to Sunnyslope, and Notre Dame, who would meet each other in the championship game. Even if Garlid wasn’t able to win a state title for baseball, he always has his 2012 football championship win, and this TD catch to fall back on.

Make sure to check back often as we continue to count down the top 50 memorable sports moments of 2012/13.
